Plastic Move is a pioneering Turkish startup that began as an idea in 2015. Recognizing the global shift towards bioplastics, our founder, Büşra Köksal, identified a critical flaw: many bioplastics were being produced from valuable food sources. In a world facing a food crisis, this approach was unsustainable.
Driven by a commitment to sustainability, Büşra spent years researching and developing a groundbreaking solution. She discovered that it was possible to produce the biopolymer necessary for bioplastics using starch-based food waste materials. This innovation not only reduces reliance on food resources but also supports upcycling and the circular economy.
After formulating our bioplastics, Plastic Move’s foundation was ready. By applying to various startup programs, Plastic Move was selected to participate in the prestigious Ulukaya Start-Up Program in New York, USA. Following a month of intensive education and mentorship there, we began trial processes with two industry giants in Turkey: Sarten Packaging, one of the largest packaging factories, and Evyap, a leading FMCG company.
The successful outcomes from these trials led to Plastic Move’s first investment round, which secured a valuation of $4.5 million. To meet increasing R&D demands, we relocated to Kağıthane, Istanbul, where we continue to innovate and expand our impact on the industry.
As demand for bioplastics grew and our formulations improved, Plastic Move needed increased capacity for serial production and R&D efforts. In 2023, we completed our second investment round, achieving a valuation of $10 million. This allowed us to move to a 2,500 m² facility in Maltepe, Istanbul, enabling us to scale our operations significantly.
When the calendar turned to 2024, we recognized the need for an even broader impact. Driven by our sustainability vision, we launched a new company, PM Biomaterials, to focus on raw materials. While PM Biomaterials specializes in the development of innovative biopolymer materials, Plastic Move continues to lead the industry with high-quality finished products.
Together, PM Biomaterials and Plastic Move are committed to advancing sustainable solutions and supporting the global shift towards a greener future.
